Introduction
Nukes, also known as God Characters/神キャラ, are a tier of character present in the M.U.G.E.N (MUGEN) fighting game engine that primarily focuses on defeating opponents through the usage of various engine-level bugs and exploits. Unlike higher tiers of characters, the nuke tier restricts the usage of exploits that can remotely interfere with an enemy. This gives them a unique sort of quality in that they’re designed to tear opponents apart by utilizing weaknesses in their own code.
Because of the sheer level of internal knowledge required to make a strong nuke, as opposed to the ease of utilizing the %n bug or arbitrary code execution to simply win on demand, creating one is often seen as too much of a challenge for most authors to pursue, especially in Western communities.
The main purpose of this mini-site is to explain the technology that a nuke-tier character utilizes. It is not to explain how you should create a top-tier nuke character, as that is incredibly flexible. It is also not to provide you a template to copy and paste, but I will be linking several for the sake of following along. The primary purpose of this site is rather to be used as reference material for aspiring developers.
The first two chapters do not cover any nuke-specific technology, but rather serves as a primer/refresher for those who need more detailed information about certain state controllers and/or basic internal processing. This basic knowledge is necessary to understand certain technologies.
Nuke technologies are then discussed in detail, grouped on a per-chapter basis. It will additionally briefly gloss over implementation practices.
